How to use your Smart Card

A smart card looks very similar to a credit card with a computer chip embedded at one end. Cash can be stored as electronic value on this chip. When you activate the laundry machines, the cost of a wash or dry will be deducted from your card balance.

You simply insert your smart card into the card reader and follow the directions on the display. Regardless of the device you are using, always keep the smart card in the reader until the display indicates "Pull Card" or "Remove Card".

Taking care of your smart card is easy!

  • Keep your card clean. If it isn't working and the gold chip appears to be dirty, rub the chip with your thumb like an eraser and try the card again.
  • Remove the card from the card reader when you are prompted to do so. If you leave the card in the reader after the machine has started, and hit the card with a laundry basket or the washer lid, you may snap the card.
  • Do not punch a hole in the card. This can cause a stress fracture and may cause the gold chip to fall out.
  • Do not keep your card in your wallet if you keep your wallet in your back pocket. This also may cause a stress fracture in your card and cause it to break.

As the value is stored on the card, if you lose or break your card, you have not only lost the card but the value on the card.

Coinamatic will not issue refunds on cards abused or damaged due to neglect by the user. Any damage to the card or loss of your card, is solely your responsibility and you will need to obtain another SmartCity card and reload it with value.
